The Sten gun
At the start of the second world war, the british army had no sub machine gun. The need soon came apparent, and the prototype was put forward in early 1941. -The weapon was produced in five different versions, and when it is known that over a million was made of the mark II, one can only imagine the total number.. I´m sure its out there somwhere.... One of the reasons the mark II was produced in such large numbers, was that it could be fitted with a silencer, and such became the first silenced SMG

The Sten used 9mm parabellum ammo, and weied in at between 6-8 lb (about 3-4kg)
it had a rate of between 550-600 rounds pr minute. -depending of mark.
It was inspired by early captured german MP40´s and first saw action by Canadian troops in the battle of Dieppe.
The sten was often called "the plumbers abortion", because of its resemblence to a pice of tubing, and the tendency to jam and discharging if accidentaly dropped.
