MG-34
The MG-34 was the first "general porpouse machine gun". As the name states it could fill a variety of roles. from light machinegun, to anti aircraft gun, it filled the armour role, etc, etc.
It was put into production about 1935, and remained the official MG of the Wermacht until 1942, when it was replaced with the MG-42, wich was easyer to manifacture, and less prone to failing. The MG-34 continued to serve to the end of WWII, although it was mainly used in the wiechle mounted role, or tank gun, because it was better suited for this than the MG-42
