Colt M1911

The Colt company is one of the most widely known weapons producers. Mostly because of the fact that Samuel Colt in 1836 recieved he patent for the revolver, named after its revolving cylinder.-One of the best known would be the Colt peacemaker which common people see as the gun that won the west.

The M1911 was manufactured to serve the U.S Army´s need for greater stopping power, following experiences in close quarter battle during the phillipines insurrection (1899-1901).

The Colt M1911 was issued to the US Army for testing in 1911, and was submitted to and impressive ammount of tests, and passed with flying colours. The weapon was then issued as the primary side arm for US Army in the first World war, and continued to serve during the second world war, Korea, Vietnam, and an unnamed ammount of other conflicts. -The weapon remained in service until 1990, Which in my oppinion, (until proven otherwise) must be the longest serving weapon in the world with an impressive 75 years! of service.
